All levels invited to take part in Dutch Week

Summary

The annual Week van het Nederlands is upon us, with Dutch learners gently nudged towards dozens of social activities across the region

Babble festival

This week is Week van het Nederlands, the annual celebration of the Dutch language. In practice, that means several initiatives and activities to learn more about the language – or be encouraged to learn it.

One of the constants of the event, now in its fourth year, is the Taalkrant, or Language Newspaper, which this year looks at how Dutch is seen through the eyes of foreigners. The Taalunie, which organises the week in the Netherlands and Belgium, has also provided a tool kit for organisations to present games and activities in simple Dutch.

There are dozens of activities across Flanders and Brussels for all levels of Dutch speakers, including readings, performances and workshops. In Antwerp there is a babbelfestival, for instance, while in Brussels a mobile notice board will collect people’s thoughts about learning and speaking Dutch in the capital.
