De Munt general director named Leader of the Year
Peter de Caluwe, general director of De Munt opera house, has been named Leader of the Year by Belgium’s Lobby magazine
Focus on communication
“They defend, first and foremost, the organisations they represent,” said Lobby in a statement. “They also have to adapt their message to the approach of the media. And finally, they have to be able to speak directly to the community. That last criterion was decisive in giving out this year’s Lobby Awards and explains why the main award goes to Peter de Caluwe.”
Born in Dendermonde, East Flanders, De Caluwe (pictured) studied literature and theatre and began working as a dramaturge at De Munt while still a student. He eventually moved to Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, where he served as communication director and later artistic director. He came back to De Munt as general director in 2007.
Last year, De Caluwe won the Flemish Association for Management and Policy’s Manager of the Year award. In 2011, Klara radio voted him Music Personality of the Year, and in 2007, he was the first person to receive an honorary Master’s degree from the Sint-Lucas art institute in Brussels.
Lobby magazine’s other awards went to:
Entrepreneur of the Year: Bernard Gustin, CEO of Brussels Airlines
Woman of the Year: Isabella Lenarduzzi of JUMP, an organisation representing women in business
Expert of the Year – Dave Sinardet, Antwerp University political science expert
Spokesperson of the Year – Wauthier Robyns of the insurance industry federation Assuralia
