The use of battery cages for laying hens will become illegal in the EU this year. Vandemoortele’s decision is “an important step in wiping out battery cages for good,” said local animal rights organisation Gaia.
The organisation will hold talks with Devos Lemmens, another major producer of sauces, in July to try to gain that company’s support.
