Sioen Industries CEO wins Manager of the Year

A jury of professionals and editors at Trends magazine have awarded Michèle Sioen the Manager of the Year award

‘People make the difference’

Flemish business magazine Trends has named Michèle Sioen as Manager of the Year. It is the third time that Sioen has been nominated for the award, and her first win.

Sioen (pictured) is the CEO of textile group Sioen Industries, based in Ardooie, West Flanders. The company makes coated textiles for industrial purposes, including protective apparel. Sioen took over the reins of the company from her father 13 years ago.

The jury – made up of Trends editors, former winners and a select group of professionals – bases its decision on several criteria: management technique, company results, entrepreneurial spirit, leadership, sustainable growth and community and business engagement outside the company.

Sioen, 52, has been lauded before for her commitment to investing in innovation and in growing the company. The company now has branches in 23 countries.

Sioen is also the president of Febeltex Bruxelles-Wallonie, a permanent representative of MJS Consulting and a member of the board of Brussels-based investment firm Sofina. She was previously the chair of the Federation of Belgian Enterprise.

In a company, “people make the difference,” she told Trends. “Motivated workers who really go for it can make or break a company. If I trust people, they get a lot of responsibility. I consider this a prize for the entire company, for all the employees.”
