Bakery – Puratos
Biotech – Galapagos
The Mechelen-based biotech company is to seek a US stock market quote. The firm has high hopes for its most recent rheumatoid treatment, which has been tested successfully on 500 patients and expects to raise up to $100 million (€92 million) on the Nasdaq.
Fast food – Quick
The Belgian-born burger chain with some 500 outlets locally, in France and Luxembourg opened its first restaurant in Istanbul and Tunis last week. The company has plans to open an additional 100 outlets internationally over the next seven years.
Pharma – UCB
The Brussels-based pharmaceuticals group has sold its established brands portfolio in India to the local Dr Reddy company for €118 million. The deal, which includes franchises in the areas of allergies and respiratory disorders, will allow UCB to concentrate its resources on the development in India of the sales of its neurology products.
Security – Ticto
The Brussels-based developer of a digital smartbadge for location authorisation of individuals and crowds, has won the silver medal for Most Innovative Product at the RSA Conference in San Francisco.
Telecoms – Proximus
The Brussels-based mobile phone and digital TV provider has invested several million euro in Tessares, a spin-off of the University of Leuven, specialised in increasing the speed capacity of internet connections.
Theme parks – Plopsaland
The De Panne-based theme park, a division of the Studio 100 production company, has inaugurated its Plopsaqua park as part of its €25 million investment programme for new attractions, renovations and expansion. The Bellewaerde park in Ypres, meanwhile, has invested €4 million in new equipment.
