Techno-gap could wreck competitiveness

A decade ago, Belgium stood at the forefront of Internet services: in such a heavily-cabled country, the provision of ADSL was a simple matter. But now the country is slowing down and even moving backwards, Cisco says. The basic infrastructure is not keeping up with the requirements of the knowledge economy. "This is not something that only specialists care about; this could have a major social impact," said the company's Pol Van Biervliet.
