Traffic chaos expected on Thursday in Brussels
Major disruption to both traffic and public transport is expected tomorrow in the capital as unions protest against federal government policies
De Lijn delays across region
The march begins at 11.30 and will travel from North Station to South Station, but the likely effects will spread to the whole city centre and the inner ring-road, police said. Sainctelette and Antwerpsepoort city-bound exits from the Leopold II tunnel will close at 9.00. They will open again around 14.00. The Rogier exit from the Kruidtuin tunnel will also close at 9.00.
As the march approaches the South station, the Hallepoort tunnel northbound will be closed off and traffic diverted via Bareel in Sint-Gillis. It will re-open once marchers have dispersed.
Brussels public transport authority MIVB has warned of disruption on its network, as many union members will be taking part in the demonstration. Overground vehicles will also suffer diversions and delays in the city centre as a result of the march.
Flanders' public transport system De Lijn is also expecting delays and cancellations as drivers join the protest in Brussels. Passengers are advised to make alternative arrangements and to consult social media for real-time updates.
