Construction began on the €25 million project exactly two years ago; it replaces a now demolished, much smaller sports centre. The new facility includes a 25-metre swimming pool with movable floor, allowing the pool’s depth to be adjusted.
“The movable floor is a unique feature that will allow students of different abilities to be taught at the same time,” explained BSB’s head of aquatics, Kathrin Lammers.
The new pool features digital timing and touch pads so the BSB swimming squad can train with the latest technology, as well as allow the school to host invitationals and inter-school swim meets. The centre also includes fitness and dance studios, a multi-purpose gymnasium and gymnastics infrastructure.
BSB was founded in 1969 and is an all-through international school for pupils up to age 18. There are more than 1,350 students enrolled, representing some 70 nationalities.
