PXL university college installs software against cheating
The PXL University College in Hasselt is obliging students to install programmes on their computers that will allow lecturers to monitor what is happening on their screens during exams
Students claim invasion of privacy
Students have to install software that makes it possible for lecturers to see what is happening on their screens. The measure has caused protest among students, who claim that lecturers can look at anything on their computers. “It’s an outright violation of our privacy,” said one student.
Their department head at PXL, Francis Vos, responded that students’ privacy is not in danger. “The software just enables us to be sure that students don’t communicate with each other during exams, without having to have a supervisor walk around the class,” he said. “Students can turn off the software if there is no exam.”
