Flemish minister-president Kris Peeters will today officially open the Science Centre World Summit in Technopolis, where experts will discuss the newest trends in science communication.
 

For three days, the science and technology centre in Mechelen will host the international summit that brings together about 400 experts on science communication, policy-makers and representatives from international organisations and the industry for lectures and debates on science communication and science centres. The key themes are research and communication about research, informal learning and new technologies in science communication.

It is the initiative of several global centres, like the North Africa and Middle East Science centres network. Those present during the academic opening session included Flemish minister-president Kris Peeters, King Filip and François Englert – the first Belgian scientist to win the Nobel Prize for Physics.

The outcomes of the summit will result in the Mechelen Declaration, in which the international science centre field and its partners will commit to concrete actions in improving science communication.
