Hospitals join forces to combat complex tumours
Three Flemish hospitals have created a network to improve their level of care of complicated cancers such as those found in the oesophagus or pancreas
“The future of care in Flanders”
“We will share our expertise to guarantee that we are applying the latest trends in science,” said Eric Wyffels, medical director of OLV Ziekenhuis. “The future of care service in Flanders lies in the building of knowledge networks,” he added.
The hospitals will strive towards a uniform medical approach, including through video conferences for doctors from the three hospitals, to discuss treatment methods. The hospitals’ psychosocial approach will also be fine-tuned through the collaboration. The hospitals hope that their co-operative approach will eventually be financially supported by the government of Flanders.
