Households without a car spend much less on mobility
According to a report from the economy department, families without a car spend seven times less on mobility than families with a car

According to the report, households with one or more cars spent an average €5,000 in 2014, while households without a car spent a mere €713. Those with a car spent more than 90% of their mobility budget on purchase, maintenance and repairs. The study didn’t take the cost of insurance into account, which would push expenditures up further.
A majority of households in Belgium – 83% – have at least one car. Just over one-quarter have more than one car. The other 17% have no car, spending twice as much per year on rail transport (€184 per year on average) as those with cars, and three times more on other public transport (€111 average).
