Patients rate Flemish hospitals online

Summary

New website created by nurse lets patients judge care, contact, food and rooms

Aim for transparency

The new review website Medira gives patients the chance to rate the Flemish hospital in which they were treated, just like they can with hotels or restaurants. Patients can for example rate the room, the contact with the doctor and the food, giving them from one to five stars.

The founder of the site is a nurse who works in a hospital. He evaluates the appropriateness of each comment before it is posted online, but doctors can be called by their name and anonymous reviews are accepted.

Zorgnet Vlaanderen, the umbrella organisation for the care sector, is not averse to the idea as it improves the transparency of the care sector. It is involved in the creation of another rating system for hospitals, which should achieve a more objective assessment of the care provided.
