VIB celebrates 20 years with biotech tour through Flanders
Flanders’ life sciences research centre is heading out on tour with an exhibition and talks that describe their research to general audiences
VIB is based in Ghent but close working relationships with all of Flanders’ universities and with imec in Leuven. Normally, VIB hosts a Biotech Day once a year at a single location, with activities revolving around a central theme. Last year, the fifth edition focused on cancer and brain research and took place on the University of Leuven’s Gasthuisberg campus.
For this special edition, VIB is travelling with an exhibition and Biotechbabbels, or biotech talks, to a variety of cities. After Bozar, VIB will move on to Antwerp, Hasselt, Ghent, Leuven and finally back to Brussels in February for a talk at the Flemish parliament.
Both the exhibition and talks are free with advance registration. Both introduce visitors to the challenges facing VIB scientists, including research on brain functioning, cancer, inflammatory diseases and intestinal flora. The talks, which are in Dutch, will include discussions led by a science journalist.
