The wine and culinary festival Eat! Brussels Drink! Bordeaux, a bike ride through Limburg and the Scottish weekend: our pick of activities in Flanders and Brussels

Eat, drink and ride your bike

From exploring Limburg province on two wheels to watching shepherding demonstrations, Flanders Today pulls together an A-list of events and activities across the region, for both kids and adults.

Eat! Brussels Drink! Bordeaux

The culinary festival is back in the park across from the Royal Palace. Winemakers from France’s Bordeaux region will be on hand to promote their wares. Buy a Wine Pass for nine tastings, a souvenir glass, plus a seat in one of the wine school sessions. Top Brussels chefs will be serving up gastronomic treats. 7-10 September 12.00-23.00, Warandepark, Brussels; free entry

Limburg 4-Day bike ride

Over the course of four days, three routes of varying lengths take you through a different part of the province. You can participate for one, two, three or all four days. On Saturday there’s a ride that follows the route of the Amstel Gold Tour, and on Sunday there’s a route just for mountain bikes. 7-10 September, Kinderboederij, Domein Pietersheim, Lanaken; €4/day

Scottish Weekend

A celebration of all things Scottish: bagpipes, Highland dancing, shepherding demonstrations, Celtic folk music, Highland games, a market and more. Don’t miss the Belgian Pipe Band Competition, one of the highlights of the weekend, and special guests The Welsh Guards. 8-10 September, Alden Biesen, Kasteelstraat 6, Bilzen; €13-€20

XL 10-mile run

Choose a five- or 10-mile course for this fun run in the heart of Brussels. The route starts and ends near the European Parliament and circles the scenic ponds of Elsene. There’s also a one-mile run for kids aged four to 12. Register online or on site. 10 September 9.00-13.00, Esplanade Solidarnosc 1980, Brussels; €8-€20

Register for Silent City

On 14 October, there will be a ceremony at Tyne Cot Cemetery to commemorate the centenary of the Battle of Passchendaele. Volunteers are needed to illuminate the graves during the ceremony, which includes a sound and light show, music and stories.
