Heritage platform wins prestigious Europa Nostra Award

Summary

The Erfgoedplus online platform offers a digital heritage catalogue to both professionals and the public in Limburg and Flemish Brabant

Example for Europe

Flanders’ online heritage platform Erfgoedplus has won a Europa Nostra Award in the category Education, Training and Awareness-Raising. Erfgoedplus offers cultural heritage information on a wealth of objects and sites across Limburg and Flemish Brabant.

The site is open to professionals and the public, and tools are available to collect and input your own data on the platform, such as photographs of heritage objects or sites. It offers a way for heritage managers to make a professional inventory of their documentation and supports sharing heritage-related materials.

Users can also search Erfgoedplus for specific objects or information, which has proven useful to tour guides, teachers, students and researchers. “This outstanding platform has considerably advanced the standards of heritage documentation in Belgium,” the Europa Nostra jury said of the project. “It provides an interesting and effective training model for other projects throughout Europe as it integrates community involvement, education and digitisation.”

Europa Nostra, based in The Hague and Brussels and partially funded by the EU, contributes to the development of heritage-related policies in Europe.
