Flemish interior minister Geert
Bourgeois last week withdrew
subsidies from two mosques –
in Borgerhout, Antwerp province,
and in Waregem, West Flanders
– suspected of radical Islamist
preaching. The De Koepel in
Borgerhout also risks being the first
mosque in Flanders ever to have its
licence withdrawn. Only 28 of the
more than 200 mosques in Flanders
are officially recognised and eligible
for subsidy, on condition they do not
preach hate or violence.
