Vito spin-off to commercialise first drone management platform
The Flemish Institute for Technological Research and West Flanders company Flight Plus have joined forces to create a platform for managing commercial drones
Meeting a challenge
“The increase of drones creates the need for a management platform to integrate and monitor drones in the airspace,” Vito said. “Our new spin-off will provide the tool to meet this challenge.” Commercial drone users will need to register on the platform and will then see where they are allowed to fly and what regulations they need to follow.
Air traffic control services and government institutions will be able to use the platform to monitor the commercial drone flights. Drone companies will be able to automatically send all necessary information to the authorities, saving them time and money.
“Drones are increasingly used in remote sensing and related applications, for example to check high voltage power lines,” said Walter Eevers, director of strategic partnerships at Vito. “The safe integration of the drones is essential.”
The first version of the platform will be tested in Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. The goal is then to integrate the software in the rest of Europe. The name of the new spin-off will be announced shortly.
