Samusocial owes €2m to parent organisation, leaked papers show

Summary

Bruzz reports that the office for the homeless in Brussels owes the money to the OCMW for a variety of services

Outstanding bills

The Brussels office for the homeless owes more than €2 million to its parent organisation, social aid agency OCMW, according to Bruzz. The whole Samusocial board stepped down this month over attendance fees paid to some board members, including Yvan Mayeur, who was forced to resign as Brussels mayor as a result.

According to documents considered by the OCMW this week and leaked to the press, the OCMW provided Samusocial with three buildings free of charge, as well as 109 members of staff. Samusocial had to pay the OCMW €800 a month each for 65 of those staff, but the costs were covered by a variety of subsidies.

The OCMW charged Samusocial for a laundry service and for parking spaces, but payment was made late or not at all. The documents reveal that for the laundry service alone, there is an outstanding bill of more than €500,000. Samusocial’s total debt to the OCMW amounts to €2,234,645.

Meanwhile, it was reported that former OCMW chair Pascale Peraïta earned €204,500 in 2016 from her main job and other related positions. As well as chairing the OCMW, she earned fees from her position as chair of the board of the Sint-Pieter hospital, the UZ Centrum Brussel which groups the capital’s public hospitals, a Brussels housing company and Samusocial.
