Jospop festival returns in style to mark 25 years
Founded by a youth club in 1992, the two-day festival offers a campsite and an enviable line-up of names
From humble beginnings
But Jospop in the lush Schepdaal – part of Dilbeek, just a stone’s throw from the centre of Brussels – falls into neither category. Having started in 1992 with 1,400 in a parking lot of a local sports hall, Jospop has grown into an anticipated event, with more than 11,000 ticket-holders.
Because of a sudden relocation last year, the two-day festival had to return to its roots, offering just one night in a tent in which little more than 1,700 could fit. But to celebrate its 25th edition, the festival is now preparing for two days and a crowd of more than 10,000 again.
Kicking off this Friday, Jospop offers a campsite and an enviable line-up of names. One of the highlights is Kortrijk’s SX, the electronic indie pop band whose captivating hit “Black Video” from 2011 catapulted them to stages around the globe.
Freaky Age (pictured), the rock band from Ternat that made headlines in 2006 when they were thrown into the national and international rock circuits at 14, have withstood the test of time and are another band to look out for.
Jospop isn’t the only one celebrating a jubilee. K’s Choice, the legendary brother-and-sister duo of Bert and Sara Bettens, also turn 25 this year. The band headlines the festival with a greatest hits session.
TLP aka Troubleman, known from his soulful sessions at Ghent’s Charlatan, will then take over the decks and finish off the festival with an afterparty.
