What’s on: Plane rally and sculpture exhibition invade Knokke

Summary

Two events at the coast this week promise interesting new perspectives, as does an intriguing exhibition in Ghent

Vintage Air Rally

For a different approach to a day at the beach, check out the first ever international short landing and take-off competition. Keep your eyes on the skies for vintage biplanes from the 1920s as well as the most up-to-date aircraft.

During the competition, the beach at Knokke will be considered a legal, international airport. The long weekend includes aviation experts, guest speakers and more than 60 events all about the skies. 14-17 June, Knokke-Heist

Sculpture Link

Twenty-five years of international exhibitions calls for a summer jubilee and Sculpture Link is going all-out. Celebrating its 25th anniversary with 25 works of art, the coastal art trail features flawless, hyper-real sculptures and complex, artistic designs of women’s bodies. Featured artists Carole Feuerman from the US and Italian Rabarama both use the female body as their muse, creating striking and awe-inspiring designs. Feuerman’s work has previously been included in the collections of Dr Henry Kissinger and Bill Clinton, while Rabarama has collaborated with Cirque du Soleil. 15 June to 15 August, Knokke

Summer Guests

Housed in an old asylum in Ghent, the Museum Dr Guislain puts a spotlight on the history of mental health and psychiatry. Their rotating exhibits feature artwork from psychiatric patients or those with mental illness. This summer, selected pieces from Galerie Atelier Herenplaats, Kunsthuis Yellow Art and Het Vijfde Seizoen en Beautiful Distress will be displayed. The result: a unique and sprawling collection of experimental work, mountainscapes and pieces from residencies in New York. 16 June to 23 September, Jozef Guislainstraat 43, Ghent

Visueel Festival

Have you ever wanted to try out trapeze or acroyoga? Or… maybe just watch? At the 14th annual Visueel Festival, you can see all kinds of street performances and workshops, free of charge. The acts don’t involve language, ensuring all audiences can understand the shows. Expect award-winning acrobatics, theatre performances and live music. 16 June, Kerkplein Sint-Agatha-Berchem
